Back in Siloé
This photo shows where I want to spend a lot of time the next 2 or 3 months. This is Siloé. It’s on the side of a hill and is densely populated with people packed into houses very close to each other. My Cali friends all tell me how dangerous it is. I think the more people tell me that the less I’m inclined to believe it. I think it can be just as dangerous there as in any city in the world. There are always good people and bad people wherever you go. I’ve met some really nice people in Siloé. I think I’ve finally found a person who understands what I want to do in these barrios. My friend, Alejandra, gave me the name of someone to contact who gave me the name of another person. The other person turned out to be a “leader” in the community. I met with him last week, showed him my book and showed him the photos from my photo exhibit of Bocas del Palo. He is totally on board with me now. He wants me to do a book on Siloé. We plan to get together often and walk through the neighborhoods so I can meet people and photograph the streets and the people. I feel pretty good about it now and hope to get enough good photos for another photo exhibit, and, well, maybe a book. From our 2 hours together, I got a few photos that I like. But, I’ve barely started.
